Cooking with Colors: Learning Spanish Vegetable Vocabulary Through a Delicious Meal
When I first started learning Spanish, one fun way I practiced was by cooking! Preparing a simple dish gave me the perfect excuse to learn the names of common vegetables—and repeat them out loud while chopping, stirring, and serving. Let’s go through a colorful, healthy veggie-based meal and pick up some Spanish along the way.
Los ingredientes
Imagine we’re making a vegetable stir-fry. Here’s what we might need:
Carrot – Zanahoria
Onion – Cebolla
Bell pepper – Pimiento
Zucchini – Calabacín
Garlic – Ajo
Spinach – Espinaca
Mushroom – Champiñón
¡A cocinar!
As you cook, say the names of each vegetable in Spanish. This kind of repetition helps you connect the words with real objects. Plus, it’s fun and tasty. Next time you're in the kitchen, think of it as a mini Spanish lesson.
