What is a language exchange?
Two people help each other practice: you learn their language, and they learn yours. Take turns using each language and help each other along the way.
Start your first language exchange
A few simple phrases are enough to begin. Start with text and move to audio or a call when you both feel ready.

Set your languages
Open Account, then Learning Settings. Choose the language you speak and the one you want to practice.

Find an exchange partner
Open Community and choose Find exchange partners. Read a profile, then choose Say Hello to open a chat. You can also find fellow learners to practice with.

Send a short introduction
Say what you are learning and offer help with your language. Take turns, and use a conversation starter or shared activity when you need an idea.

Is language exchange free on Lingobi?
You can start language exchange for free. Free accounts have a daily limit on new chats, and some partner search filters require Premium.
Can I start as a beginner?
Yes. Tell your partner your level and start with greetings or a few short sentences. Conversation starters and shared activities can give you something to practice together.
Do I have to make a voice call?
No. You can start with text chat. Send an audio message or try a one-to-one voice call when you and your partner feel ready.
What should I say in my first message?
Introduce yourself, say which language you are learning, and offer help with the language you speak. Ask one simple question, such as whether your partner would like to practice introductions.
How can I control who I chat with?
You can block a person or report inappropriate behavior from their profile or the chat options. Keep personal details private and choose which conversations you want to continue.
