Cooking in Spanish: Learn Tools and Vocabulary

By Lingobi, Published on 05/29/2025

Learning Spanish isn’t just about grammar — it’s about daily life. And for me, one of the best ways to pick up new vocabulary was by doing something I love: cooking. Every time I followed a recipe or cooked a dish, I learned the names of kitchen tools and ingredients in Spanish.

Here are some common kitchen items and their names in Spanish:

Measuring cup – Taza medidora

Used to measure liquids or ingredients. Example: Necesito una taza medidora para la leche.

Whisk – Batidor

Used to beat eggs or mix sauces. Example: Usa el batidor para mezclar los huevos.

Cutting board – Tabla de cortar

Where you chop vegetables or meat. Example: Pon las verduras en la tabla de cortar.

Spatula – Espátula

Great for flipping or scraping food in a pan. Example: Usa la espátula para voltear los panqueques.

Strainer – Colador

Used to drain pasta or rinse vegetables. Example: Escurre la pasta con el colador.

Next time you cook, try naming each item in Spanish! Little by little, your vocabulary will grow — and you might even impress your dinner guests.
