A Spanish Word I Wish English Had: Trasnochar

One of the things I enjoy about learning Spanish is finding words that don't have a perfect one-word match in English. Trasnochar is a good one.

Trasnochar means staying up very late, usually much later than you should. In English we'd normally need a phrase like stay up late or stay up all night.

You can also say no quiero trasnochar when you know tomorrow morning is going to hurt if you don't go to bed soon.

It's a simple word, but that's part of what makes learning another language fun. Sometimes one language has a neat little shortcut that the other doesn't.
